“THEY are a bit stronger than I expected,” James Bond, Turpoint, Cornwall, UK, said as he reviewed the championship classes of the Dorset Downs.
“I am well pleased with the strong class of sheep which are very square on their legs.
“The sheep have good length and depth, and a good covering of meat all round.”
In the ram section, he awarded the champion ribbon to Colin and Margaret Chapman, Woodhall stud, Wedderburn, for their ram which had graduated from the over two and half year class.
“They have very good backlines and their meat runs all the way down especially through the hindquarters,” Mr Bond said, as he presented the championship ribbons.
“The champion ram is very good with a solid backend.”
The champion ewe was also bred and shown by Colin and Margaret Chapman, who continue to maintain the stud since founded in 1945 by Margaret’s grandfather.
The ewe had come through the over two and half year class, and impressed judge James Bond for her tremendous shape and overall appeal.
The Chapman family were also the most successful exhibitor.
