Imagine the faces of attendees at Binnaway's store cattle sale last Saturday when this Mercedes stretch limo pulled up and offloaded buyers. As it turned out, the limo belonged to Binnaway's Royal Hotel publican, Sean Henderson, who drove Coonabarabran commission buyer, Don Riley, to the sale as a ruse.
Everyone was let in on the joke at the pub after the sale, when local, Malcolm Leader, and agent, Larry Tolmie, took a breezy ride with Mr Riley, sticking through the limo's roof.
By coincidence, Mr Riley is also a Limousin cattle breeder, which had the local scallywags even more determined to play the joke. Weaner steers and heifers, plus cows, either with calves or pregnancy tested in calf, met a fully firm market, but older steers were quoted as cheaper by $100 on the previous sale.
Mr Riley purchased the old steers on behalf of Warwick agents, George and Fuhrman, for a south-eastern Queensland feedlot. The steers opted for the comfort of a truck.
