POSSIBLY due to beef prices slipping during the week and graziers deciding to hang on to stock for a winter break, just 102 head of cattle were yarded at Dubbo’s store cattle sale today.
Cattle filled pens on both sides of one lane while buyers, agents and spectators nearly outnumbering the cattle.
Then 38 weaner steers ranged in price from $520 for Santa Gertrudis to $895 for Angus crosses while 24 heifer weaners sold from $460 for Angus to $580 for Santa Gertrudis.
Just five yearling heifers sold at $750 a head.
Highlight was a draft of 16 Angus six-year-old cows PTIC to Santa Gertrudis bulls and soon to calve offered for the Wynne family of Condobolin, which sold at $1060 a head.
Only 11 cows with calves were offered and sold from $870 to $1480 a unit, with the majority being Hereford/Angus crosses.
A lone Shorthorn cow made $1380 while five Angus cows sold at $700 each.
