THREE bulls reached the sale high of $10,000 at the 11th annual Golden Guitar Charolais Sale at Tamworth on Friday.
The three studs – St Antonio, Leppington, Caloona Park, Tamworth, and Temana, Barradine – had strong commercial support from the the Hunter Valley, New England and Northern Rivers, resulting in an average of $6100, with 30 of the 38 bulls offered sold.
The first bull in the pen, St Antonio Levi, sold for $10,000, to Danny and Mary-anne Gleeson, “Glen Hill”, Torryburn. The 22-month-old bull, by Palgrove Humdinger from St Antonio Floria, weighed 914 kilograms, and had a scrotal circumference of 35cm, rump fat of eight millimetres, rib fat of 6mm and an eye muscle area (EMA) of 139 square centimetres.
Caloona Park Legend, a 22-month-old, 980kg son of Airlie Farlane and Caloona Park Unzip 2, sold to Gary Sinderberry, “Synone”, Rouchel. He measured 38cm in the scrotum, 11mm and 10mm on the rump and rib, and had a 135cm2 EMA.
Mondora Pty Ltd, Casino took home the third $10,000 bull, 23-month-old St Antonio Luther, another Palgrove Humdinger son, from St Antonio YRMA F4E. The 880kg bull had a scrotal size of 40cm, rump and rib fat of 11mm and 8mm, and an EMA of 135cm2.
Mondora was the volume buyer, purchasing four bulls for an average of $7500. The draft included another Humdinger son, $9500 bull St Antonio Lyle.
The 23-month-old red factor bull, from St Antonio Fiona, weighed 930kg, had a scrotal circumference of 40cm, measured 6mm and 4mm on the rump and rib and had an EMA of 136cm2.
St Antonio Lindon, a 23-month-old son of Mayfield Park Luke and St Antonio Elea, sold to Charmaine Partridge, Walcha, for $9000, and Brian Martin, “Banoole”, Glencoe, bought 21-month-old Caloona Park Loyal, by Caloona Park Gladiator from Caloona Park Chanel, for $8000.
Mr Martin was among the other volume buyers, taking home two bulls averaging $7000. Also purchasing two bulls were Rosehill Pastoral, “Busby’s Flat”, Casino, and Brad Halloran, “Waterview”, Glen Innes.
The sale was conducted by Chris Paterson Stock and Station Agent and Pitt Sons Walcha, with Chris Paterson taking the bids.
