The garden at the homestead of the historic property “Berrembed” on the Murrumbidgee River at Grong Grong will open for the Narrandera Town and Country Open Gardens on Sunday 22nd October, 2017 in aid of Can Assist.
Large long established trees anchor an English style garden with expanses of lawn, specimen trees, shrubs, roses and herbaceous perennials.
They are a legacy of the ownership by one family for close to one hundred and forty years and a passion for gardening, the garden at “Berembed” was included in the Australian Open Garden Scheme.
There is a welcome absence of hard landscaping – paths are gravel, lawn edges garden beds and clipped creeping fig is used to soften retaining walls.
A light lunch will be available there.
The garden of the gardener’s cottage close by to the homestead and four gardens in the Narrandera township will also open.
Entry and location map at “Berrembed” and the Narrandera Park from 9am to 2.30pm on the day – viewing until dusk.
This is a self drive event with $15 covering entry to all six gardens plus a Devonshire Tea in the Narrandera Uniting Church Hall where there will be a well stocked plant stall.
The Shady Gum Nursery will be offering a generous discount to garden viewers on the day.
Watch out for garden enhancement works of artisan in steel, Ian Fennessy.
