The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) will be at the Commonwealth Bank AgQuip Field Days this month to provide the latest research information to growers to help boost on-farm yields.
GRDC senior regional manager for the northern region Jan Edwards said growers would have a chance to hear from some of the region’s most respected grains researchers about topical issues such as seasonal disease risks and harvest management as part of the event from August 22 to 24.
Gunnedah’s AgQuip is the nation’s largest agricultural industry field day event.
Ms Edwards said the field days provided an invaluable opportunity for GRDC staff to engage directly with growers to listen to their on-farm production challenges and understand their research needs and priorities.
“To ensure GRDC research portfolios reflect the needs of growers there has be to a clear understanding of their priorities and profit drivers, so their levy investment can help deliver paddock-ready solutions to production constraints, reduce production costs and positively impact on farm profitability,” Ms Edwards said.
This year GRDC will again join the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) to host a winter and summer crop update breakfast meeting on Wednesday, August 23.
“The GRDC and NSW DPI cropping update breakfast has become a key event during the field days,” Ms Edwards said.
“It offers visiting growers an opportunity to hear directly from researchers on topics like disease, harvest management and regional summer cropping issues.”
Growers who visit the GRDC site at AgQuip this year will also have a chance to hear about AgSkilled rural and regional training courses designed to improve the skills of those working in the NSW grain and cotton industries.
The GRDC DPI breakfast starts at 7.30am on August 23. Their site is at i24B, across from the NSW Farmers’ Association shed.
