BIDDING reached a record high of $29,000 at the annual Wombramurra Simmental bull sale at Nundle on Wednesday.
All 80 bulls offered by Andrew and Trudy Chapman and Peter and Judy Howarth sold, averaging $8275.
The 42 black Simmental bulls averaged $9452, with the 23 two-year-olds averaging 10,608, 11 18-month-olds averaging $8545 and the eight yearlings selling to an average of $7375. In the SimAngus bulls, the overall average for 38 bulls was $6873. The 24 two-year-olds averaged $$6875, nine 18-month-olds averaged $7000 and five yearlings averaged $7400.
Repeat clients David and Ben Wirth, “Glengarry”, Glen Elgin, took home the top bull, Wombramurra L202, a 23-month-old son of TNT Tanker U263 and Langton-Gate A084. The 870-kilogram bull had a scrotal circumference of 40 centimetres, measured five millimetres and 4mm for rump and rib fat, had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 117 square centimetres and intramuscular fat (IMF) of 4.8 per cent, with estimated breeding values (EBVs) of +22 and +39 for 200- and 400-day weight.
Wombramurra L219, by GW Lucky Man 644N from Wombramurra H502, sold to A.J. Howarth and R.A. Ware, Mungullala, Queensland, for $28,000. The 23-month-old weighed 840kg with a scrotal circumference of 41cm, 6mm and 4mm on the rump and rib, an EMA of 116cm2 and 5.4pc IMF, with EBVs of +36 and +42 for 400- and 600-day weight.
Longtime client Jim Robinson, Nundle, bought Wombramurra L203, a 23-month-old bull by GW Lucky Man 644N from Langton-Gate A086, for $16,000. The 865kg bull was one of eight bulls purchased by Mr Robinson, with his draft averaging $6500.
Wombramurra M096, a 13-month-old son of CCR Cowboy Cut 5048Z and Wombramurra K100, was the top Simmental yearling, selling for $16,000 to Barry Jackson and Mark Roberts, “Glenrock”, Braidwood.
A SimAngus yearling, Wombramurra M104, also made $16,000, selling to Duncan Ball, “Dimby Downs”, Blackville. The 13-month-old by Millah Murrah Emperor K184 from Wombramurra G035 weighed 595kg, had a scrotal circumference of 39cm, measured 5mm and 5mm on the rump and rib, with an 86cm2 EMA and IMF of 5.7pc.
Seven bulls averaging $9000 went to NSW Department of Primary Industries, Wallings Pastoral Company, “Collaroy”, Cassilis, bought five bulls for an average of $7800, and Peter and Anna Stevenson, managers of Warrabah Station, Manilla, took home four bulls averaging $10,500.
The sale was conducted by Landmark Tamworth, with Paul Dooley on the rostrum.
