BIDDING reached a high of $12,000 at the 12th annual Wakefield Charolais and Angus bull sale at “Wakefield”, Wollomombi, on Friday.
Fifty one of the 55 bulls offered by Greg and Jenny Frizell sold for an overall average of $5610.
In the Charolais bulls, 34 of 35 bulls sold to average $6015, with Wakefield Millenium making the top price of $12,000. Sixteen of 19 Angus bulls sold, averaging $4750 and topping at $7000 for Wakefield Docklands K656.
Repeat client Mark Morawitz, “Brockley Park”, Walcha, took home the $12,000 bull, by CML Encore 4Y from Wakefield Ace. The 16-month-old weighed 608 kilograms with a scrotal circumference of 36 centimetres, and rump and rib fat of 10 millimetres and 8mm. He had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 118 square centimetres and intramuscular fat (IMF) of 3.6 per cent.
Two bulls – Wakefield Lamborghini and Wakefield Masterclass – made $10,000, selling to Mike Lawlor, Kilkenny Charolais, Taroom, Queensland, and the Sword family, “Oaklands”, Mudgee.
Lamborghini was a 29-month-old son of Advance XR8 and Gobongo Rebby W36E, and was a full brother to the 2017 Sydney Royal champion Charolais female, Boongatti Fantasy.
Eighteen-month-old Masterclass was a red factor bull by Winn Mans Lanza 6105 from Wakefield Ace 4.
In the Angus sale, David Gibson, Dorrigo, bought the $7000 bull, a 36-month-old son of Carabar Docklands D62 and Millah Murrah Brenda F167, who had been used extensively in the Wakefield herd.
Alistair McDougall, “Marengo”, Walcha, was the volume buyer, purchasng two $4000 Charolais bulls, a Shorthorn/Charolais composite bull for $5000, and an Angus bull for $4000. George Allen, Casino; Mintarl Pastoral Company, Walcha; and Kristy Van Niekerk, Jackadgery, each bought three bulls, averaging $4333, $4666 and $6333 respectively.
All five potential show heifers were sold, topping at $5000 for Wakefield Autumn 18, bought by Nigel and Casey Wieck, CB Charolais, Delungra.
The sale was settled by Ray White Rural Kempsey and Ray Donovan Stock and Station, Grafton.
