A STANDOUT sire with outstanding Breedplan estimated breeding values attracted much attention and topped the 47th annual Dalkeith Poll Hereford Spring Sale at Cassilis last Thursday at $32,000.
Dalkeith Loaded L043 by NZ sire Markowen Federer and from the Wirruna Echuca sired Dalkeith Fancy J084, weighing 882 kilograms at rising 30 months was purchased by Suz and Guy Lord, “Branga Plains”, Walcha.
Seven of the 13 EBVs in Loaded’s figures are within the top 10 per cent of the August Australian 2017 Group Breedplan while another four are in the top 25pc and one is above average.
Branga Plains runs 2500 commercial cows made up of half Hereford and half black baldies and Loaded will be used in the Hereford herd breeding program, according to Mr Lord.
“We’re out to source the best genetics we can and phenotypically he is an excellent type of bull and genetically he has an excellent lot of figures.
“His carcase data is good and he has intramuscular fat of which we want as much as possible.”
Loaded recorded an eye muscle area (EMA) of 124 square centimetres and intramuscular fat (IMF) of 6.6 per cent. His supermarket value was $130, grass $128, grain $154 and EU $144.
The Martin family’s Dalkeith production sale first cleared all commercial females which included cows with calves selling in lots of five to 10 units topping at $2750 to average $1801.
Jakean Pty Ltd, Inverell, returned to secure 30 cow/calf units including the top draft of 10 at $2750 while also paying $2275 and $1850 per unit for another two pens of 10.
Six stud cows sold to $3500 twice and averaged $2750 with the top, Dalkeith Dividend 653 H088 by Chester Commodore and Dalkeith TM K275 by Matariki Holy-Smoke purchased by Gresford Lands Pty Ltd, “Hidden Valley”, Coonabarabran, who also bought another three stud females, 10 cow/calf units at $2450 each and a bull, HRT Lismore for $7000.
Thirty PTIC commercial heifers bred by Dan and Mavis Morice, “Paiparu”, Cassilis, to $1200 to average $1167.
Four bulls were purchased by Michael Martin, “Turee Vale", Coolah, who paid an average $6000 and top at $8000 for Dalkeith Lasvagas L224 by Otapawa Spark weighing 896kg with an EMA of 123sqcm and IMF of 6.1pc.
Weronga Pty Ltd, “Gundaree”, Coolah, paid $11,000 for Dalkeith Loveabull L160 by Yambro Conrad, weighing 902kg with a 126sqcm EMA and 5.9pc IMF.
George Gossage, “Parkview”, Gulgong, bought the $10,000 Dalkeith Legacy TM L091 also by Yambro Conrad, weighing 896kg with 120sqcm EMA and 6pc IMF.
Lachlan Ford, “Rosewood”, Condobolin, purchased 30 commercial cow/calf units in lots of 10 at $1750, $1675 and $1575, two stud females at $1200 each, 10 heifers at $1100 each and a bull, Dalkeith Lancaster L045 by South Bukalong Wallace 2 at $4000.
The sale was conducted by Milling Stuart Dunedoo and Elders Mudgee, with Angus Stuart auctioning commercial heifers and Paul Dooley, Tamworth, sold the stud cattle catalogue.
