LAST Saturday saw the annual on farm sale for the Weealla Merino Stud.
There were 70 poll rams offered that averaged at $1579 and topped at $5500.
Also offered were 29 Merino rams averaging $1935 and topping $3250. There was a 99 per cent clearance overall. These figures bettered last years average of $1515 for the Polls and the Merinos average of $1036.
The top price Poll ram weighed in at 115 kilograms. He is a son of the Claypans sire. Growing 19.7 micron wool, 3.1 micron standard deviation (SD), a 15.7 per cent co-efficient of variation (CV), 99.7 per cent comfort factor (CF), Eye Muscle Depth (EMD) of 42 mm and a fat depth of 7 mm, he was purchased by long-term loyal clients the McIntyre family of Narromine.
“He is a well-balanced animal and ticks all the boxes. He has got frame and will cut plenty of wool,” Co-Principal of Weealla stud, Mr Stuart McBurnie said.
The top price Merino ram, a twin, weighed 122 kg. He is a son of GLD 3.43. The ram grows 19.7 micron wool, 3 micron SD, 15.2 pc CV, 99.8 pc CF, EMD of 41 mm and a fat depth of 6 mm.
“A ram with tremendous barrel and growth that is only just hitting his straps,” Mr McBurnie said.
The ram was purchased by Terry Williams, Terra Pastoral, Dubbo, after purchasing a ram at the recent Rabobank National Merino Show and Sale in Dubbo.
There were two volume buyers at the sale, they both collected a draft of 11 rams each.
“Mr Williams came to the sale to collect his Dubbo purchased ram, and liked what he saw and bought two more,” Mr McBurnie said.
“It was pleasing to see the quality of our sheep recognised.”
"As well as our very loyal local following we had buyers come from Victoria, Deniliquin, Yass, Cassilis, Brewarrina and Rowena.”
"We welcomed seven new buyers this year who came to the sale after seeing our sheep at various field days and ram sales this year.”

"The average weight of our sale rams has increased by 19.5 kilograms since we introduced body weighing and muscle scanning seven years ago.”
"Our average weight for this year's sale was 99.5 kilograms, at 19.05 micron."
