Poll Merino rams made a successful debut at the 39th Avenel Production Sale account the McCrabb family on 15 September at the stud headquarters near Wanganella.
Twenty four Poll rams sold to sale top of $4750, and an average of $2781, contributing to an overall sale average of $2443 for a total clearance of the 96 rams offered.
Robert and Alison Glenn, “Edward Park”, Moulamein purchased the $4750, 21.4 micron sale topper, as well as three other polls, making an average of $3187 for their four rams.
Returning clients, Betty and Philip Hall, “Trelynne”, Weethalle paid top average of $3562 for four poll rams, boosting 18 years of Avenel genetics in their flock.
Avenel Clients for 15 years, Graeme and Debbie Mott of Yerong Creek, selected seven rams at an average of $3464 for their “Green Hills” flock.
Making his families 31st annual purchase, Greg Mack from Rheola, Vic averaged $3250 for his four rams.
Speaking after the sale, Colin McCrabb said his family were very pleased with the reception their Poll Merino rams received, and especially the support from loyal clients.
“It was encouraging to see the see the interest in our Poll Merino introduction, but also to have our sale average up $400 on last year,” he said.
“Current sheep and wool prices are a boost for those who have stayed true to keeping a self-replacing Merino flock through the tough time.”
Selling agents were Landmark and Elders, with Peter Godbolt and Ross Milne officiating on the rostrum.
