The inaugural Aleoburn Poll Merino ram and commercial ewe on property sale held at “Aloeburn”, Boree Creek, was undoubtedly a success.
The Green family sold 46 of the 60 rams offered for an average of $1496 reaching a top of $4300.
A complete clearance was achieved on the 567 commercial ewe’s with the four lots being purchased by Chris Wilson, “Oivi”, Wantabadgery, for $200 per head.
The $3400 top price ram Aloeburn 165995 was purchased by Shannon and Lachlan Boyd, “Pinecroft”, Cowra, for their recently established Merino enterprise to complement a line of Aloeburn commercial ewes purchased previously.
Aloeburn 165995 presented with Australian sheep breeding values (ASBV’s) in the top 10 per cent of the database post weaning weight (PWWT), yearling weight (YWT), yearling staple length and yearling scrotal circumference as well as top 20pc yearling clean fleece weight.
The Boyd brothers also purchased the second top Aloeburn 160061 for $4000.
Aloeburn 160061 had ASBV’s in the top 10pc for PWWT, YWT, and yearling staple strength as well as top 20pc for yearling fat.
Purchasing four rams in total the Boyd’s averaged $3000.
The volume buyers on the day were CP & EA Turner, “Wallandool”, Pleasant Hills, who put together a draft of nine rams for an average of $1267 peaking at $1400 on three occasions.
Not far behind both CG & JR Strong, Sandigo, and JH McLaurin, “Fairfield”, Urangeline, purchased seven rams.
The Strong’s topped at $1600 and averaged $1329 on their seven.
While Mr McLaurin reached $1400 and averaged $1229 on his seven.
