With three breeds of meat sheep to choose from buyers had the choice of a prime lamb sire to suit the requirements of their individual enterprises.
Aged 14 to 15 months and backed by stockscan data the rams were ready to go to work and produce the next drop of heavy suckers.
White Suffolks led the offering in sale order as well as numbers offered and demand.
Ninety of the 90 White Suffolk rams offered sold for an average price of $1214 up from $1156 in 2016 a reflection in the strong lamb market.
A White Suffolk ram also topped the offering at $1900 selling to Nathalia, Victoria producers and return buyers Mamore Lamb.
The top price ram was the number one ranked White Suffolk ram of the offering on StockScan index at 1330 weighed in at 118 kilograms and had an eye muscle area of 33.96 square millimeters.
Mamore Lamb purchased four rams in total for a $1475 average consisting of two White Suffolks and two Southdown x White Suffolk.
The 30 Southdown x White Suffolk rams offered and sold topped at $1750 for the number one ranked ram with a StockScan index of 1593 the largest of the sale and an eye muscle area of 40.44 sq mm.
He was purchased by Peter Mapletoft, Numurkah, Vic who also purchased four White Suffolk rams for a $1600 average.
The Southdown x White Suffolk rams averaged $1142 up from $835 in 2016.
Twenty three of the 30 Poll Dorset rams offered sold to a top of $1500 for an average price of $854 up from $729 in 2016.
The top price Poll Dorset ram was purchased by Alloa Pastoral Company, “Yarrunga”, Milawa who purchased a second Poll Dorset ram and six White Suffolk rams for a $1369 average across the selection.
Boorhaman, Vic, producers Valeclare Farm led the volume buyers putting together a draft of 15 rams consisting of 10 White Suffolk rams and five Poll Dorset rams.
They topped at $1600 for a White Suffolk ram and averaged $1160 across the 15 rams purchased.
Joining Alloa Pastoral with a selection of eight rams Parkes Seeds operating through Rodwells Euroa averaged $838 for their eight White Suffolk rams.
Also operating through Rodwells Euroa, Booroola Pastoral Co purchased seven White Suffolk rams for a $1300 average.
G & S Seach, Longwood, Vic, purchased seven rams consisting of four White Suffolk and three Poll Dorset for a $1271 average.
KC & FF Lavis, “Barnweal”, Corowa, loaded a selection of seven Southdown x White Suffolk rams for a $1064 average.
While Echuca producer Glen Kettle bought well with four White Suffolk and three Southdown x White Suffolk rams averaging $886.
The sale was conducted by Elders Albury, with Matt Tinkler and Oliver Mason sharing the auctioneer duties.
