Following a big year of show ring success including winning many champions, most successful beef exhibitor and premier beef breeder at the Sydney Royal Limousin Feature Show, Grand champion and top price bull at the Limousin National Show and Sale, and the Champion of Champions Female at the Royal Brisbane Show who led off the sale, the scene was set for a successful female and genetic opportunity sale for the Robson family’s Flemington Limousin stud.
Held on-property at “Flemington Park”, Adelong, the offering was only the second opportunity the Robson family had granted Limousin enthusiasts to access the heart of their herd, following the initial female and genetic opportunity sale in November 2015.
Leading off the offering Flemington Cupcake L3 was always going to be a star lot, bred in the purple she was sired by Flemington Exception E19 who they call “Big Cat” and out of the Magic cow family, and that is before we mention that she was the Champion of Champions Interbreed Female at the 2017 Royal Brisbane Show.
She was snapped up for the equal top money of $18,000 by Laverna Park Limousin Stud, Lance Creek, Victoria, who operated via AuctionsPlus and were no doubt drawn to the prospect of creating a new female line in their herd with this foundation female.
Having a catalogue with such depth and so many star lots it was not surprising that there was another female to match the top money.
This time a first calving two-year-old heifer with heifer calf at foot, Flemington Honey L20 was sired by import sire, Wulfs X Factor 7523X, out of a daughter of the “Big Cat” Flemington Exception E19 backed by the Honey cow family.
The pick lot of junior studmaster, Jack Robson, she sold to the Devine family of Angledale Limousins, Willow Tree, also operating via AuctionsPlus for $18,000.
A total clearance of the 11 mature cows offered was recorded for a $9318 average.
However, the tempo didn’t slow as the heifers were offered a war of sorts between phone bidders was had and won by Western Sydney University and their agent, John Palmer, Landmark Moss Vale, on the first heifer to be offered Flemington U-Beaut M26.
Sired by the Canadian sire, Greenwood PLD Zambuka, whose progeny are demanding a lot of attention and from the U-Beaut cow family, this 14-month-old unjoined heifer was described as a show prospect and little wonder she topped the heifer draft at $11,500.
Not far behind, one of the first Australian progeny to be offered in Canadian sire Greenwood Canadian Impact, Flemington Canadian Teerz N32 out of Oakwood Native Teerz sold to Limousin Stalwarts Michael and Mary Parsons, Kia Ora Limousins, Roslyn, for $10,000.
A further complete clearance was recorded on the 12 heifers offered for a $6500, resulting in a $8630 average for the 23 females offered.
Guest vendor, Pheobe Eckerman, of Aruma Limousins, Korunye, South Australia, offered the first of the bull draft, Aruma Maximus the result of embryo’s purchased from Flemington who was sired by Greenwood PLD Zambuka out of embryo transfer donor dam, Premier Vixen C61.
He has taken up residence at Kangaloon with Daniel Scamps who purchased the bull for $16,000 operating via Auctionsplus.
Three of the four junior bulls offered sold for an average price of $8,000.
In the genetic component of the sale the semen package in Flemington Exception E19 “Big Cat” which was the last semen to be released in the proven sire sold for $170 per unit to Austin Steer, Eltham Limousins, Trangie.
Overall the semen packages in three Flemington bred sires sold for an average of $120 per unit.
AuctionsPlus purchased each of the three embryo packages with them all selling to Queensland.
The Cooper family, CCJ’s Limousin, Willowbank, paid the top money of $1100 per embryo for two of the packages.
The first sired by Greenwood Canadian Impact out of Flemington Poll Waratah C9 who produced Flemington Fireball F43 the 2013 Limousin National Show and Sale top price.
The second out of Summit Magic H25 and sired by Canadian sire Greenwood PLD Zeppelin.
In total the three embryo packages averaged $1067 per embryo.
The video auction was conducted by Landmark, Wagga Wagga with Peter Godbolt, Landmark Stud Stock, Albury, wielding the gavel.
