A STORM cell hit the Central West about 8.15pm on Friday night.
After a spectacular lightning show gentle rain began to fall and persisted into Saturday, granting Errowanbang the biggest fall of rain so far for the month.
The Central Western Daily on Saturday reported the State Emergency Service received only one call-out.
At 10pm Friday, the SES responded to a call from a property in Borenore, 15 kilometres west of Orange.
The property required assistance sandbagging and managing leaks.
A forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology said a combination of humidity and instability in the upper atmosphere caused the phenomenon.
Areas of the Hunter, Central Tablelands, South West Slopes, parts of the ACT, Mid North Coast, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Southern Tablelands and North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains were all affected.
Areas of the ACT were hit by large hailstones earlier on Friday.
On Saturday afternoon rain persisted in areas from Melbourne, Vic, to Gunnedah and much of the country’s East Coast was experiencing rain.
