A STANDOUT pen of seven-year-old Angus cows presenting young calves at foot topped Dubbo store cattle sale last Friday at $1840 a unit.
They were among an increased yarding totaling 2400 head with the market quoted as firm, but reflecting current prime sale prices with young light cattle selling to strong liveweight prices as weaners made up to the 400 cents per kilogram mark.
Landmark Milling Thomas principal, Peter Thomas, said the market remained competitive for the bigger yarding.
“The forecast of rain helped values throughout the day,” he said.
PT Lord Dakin agent, Paul Dakin, said the sale attracted a diversity of buyers with western region restockers returning.
“Younger lighter cattle are easier to sell at present and people are buying to a budget, making the cattle fit their money requirements rather than buying to price.”
Top-priced calves selling to $1080 were 90 March/April 2017 drop weaner steers of Terrinell and Fernaig blood from Corrodgery Poll Herefords, Dubbo
Bob Moore, “Woodleigh”, Piambong, sold 14 Angus steer weaners, eight to 10 months, of Pine Creek and Millah Murrah blood, to $1060 and the heifer portion of the same drop to $950.
Pacific Waves Pty Ltd. “Westella”, Yeoval, sold 25 Hereford steer weaners, seven to eight months of Tummel blood, to $890.
Redbank Partners, “Redbank”, Dubbo, made $1680 a unit for 11 seven-year-old Angus cows with calves one to three months.
Among the top sales of the day was 11 Angus cows with second calves at foot from the Deutscher family, Nyngan, selling at $1710 a unit to Ben Williams, Dubbo.
Cattle off agistment from Lightning Ridge from Tom Sako, sold to $1540 for 60 Poll Hereford heifers 2½ to 3½ years with first calves of Kidman and Sevenbardot blood.
Denn Pastoral, “Wilbertree”, sold 60 two year-old Hampshire Station bred Angus PTIC heifers at $1310 each to a Victorian restocker.
