IN A relatively quick sale of mostly plainer cattle with many lacking condition steers and heifers were in demand and sold to $20 to $40 dearer in the 586 head yarding at Dubbo store cattle sale last Friday.
Buyers from Forbes and Coonamble were among a strong regional representation competing against many locals as they look to cover some fresh feed after recent storms.
Steer weaners totalling just 170 head sold from $470 to $970 averaging $740 or 393 cents a kilogram live while just 18 yearling steers sold to $1200.
Sales of heifer weaners were also strong for the 150 yarded and made from $380 to $795 averaging $680 while 31 yearling heifers fetched from $700 to $940 to average $680 and a pen of eight Angus PTIC heifers made $1100 each.
In the four pens of PTIC cows 10 Murray Greys made $1100 with sales topping at $1400 a head for 17 Herefords. A pen of black baldies made $1200 a head.
Best of the cow with calf section totalling 116 units was a pen of seven Charolais units selling to $1750 and a draft of eight Droughtmaster cows with calves making $1680.
Of the 24 dry cows tops were seven Angus at $900 with others selling down to $360 Bos Indicus crosses.
