As the year draws to a close, we thought it was time to have a look back at what events made news this year.
These, counting down from 10 to one, are the most popular galleries of 2017.
#10: Gulargambone races
The annual Gulargambone races were a popular day out for the locals in October with many taking part in the fashions in the field events.
Liam Skinner and Paris Hammond from Gular were named the best dressed boy and girl with Dominic Spora also from Gulargambone named the best dressed gent.
The sort after title of “Young Glamour” was awarded to Phillipa Smith, from Dubbo, while Katrina Shelton, of Quambone, was named the best dressed lady with Kate Gadsby, from Euchareena, named the runner up.
Mark and Jodie Walker from Gilgandra were also named Mr and Mrs Gular for 2017.
#9: Deni Ute Muster
More than 15,500 ute and country music lovers piled into Deniliquin for the 19th annual Deni Ute Muster in October.
The clouds parted and the sun shone for two days straight, making this year’s event a far cry from the muddy wonderland the showgrounds were last year, but it didn’t stop revellers from across the country from having a good time.
After weather prevented it from going ahead in 2016, the Ute Count returned in 2017, with a total of 6313 utes tallied on site.
#8: Coonamble Gold Cup
The wet weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of the racegoers who arrived on course for the 2017 Coonamble Gold Cup race meeting in October.
While the fashions in the field were able to held inside, the rain did lead to the meeting being called off with four races still to run.
Poor visibility was a concern for the jockeys and with all the riders who were back in the field coming back splattered in mud their safety was given priority and the racing came to an early end.
#7: Moree Picnic Races
There was a good crowd at the Moree Picnic Races in May. The races featured a six race program, a Fashions on the Field competition and live band.
#6: Twilight Races, Moree
People from far and wide trotted to Moree in December for one of bush racing’s largest annual events.
The heat did not discourage race-goers for the 2017 Moree Twilight Races.
Punters enjoyed a bet here and there while the ladies lined up for Fashions on the Field.
#5: Twilight Races, Warren
The party dresses were dusted off and the Christmas cheer flowed trackside at the Warren Jockey Club’s annual twilight races in December.
In addition to the six race TAB meeting with a record number of starters, there was also the Western Farm Machinery and Muldoon Patten Ag Consulting Dash for Cash.
The 200-metre sprint down the straight after the last race of the day attracted over 70 racegoers who were all very eager to claim the $200 cash prize for the first male and female over finish line.
#4: Coonabarabran Cup
The Coonabarabran Jockey Club hosted a successful Coona Cup meeting in October.
With ideal weather for a day out at the track, a near-record crowd of well-dressed racegoers took to the stage to vie for the various fashions in the field titles that were dominated by the Coona locals.
#3: Mungery Picnic Races
In a paddock on the banks of the Bogan River, 40 kilometres south west of Narromine, the 93rd annual Mungery Picnic Races was held in October.
After the last race had been run the enthusiastic crowd stayed on course for the traditional auction of donated goods as well as watching the NRL grand final and then finally dancing the night away with X-Factor winner Altiyan Childs and the band Tantrum.
#2: Come By Chance Picnics
With the temperature reaching 39.2 degrees Celsius and wind gusts of 59 kilometres an hour a larger than expected number of racegoers turned out for 70th anniversary of the annual Come By Chance Picnics in September.
Located in the Pilliga district of northern New South Wales, about 100 kilometres north of Coonabarabran the annual race meet is held on the property “Gleneda”.

Back in August Louth held it’s annual races. And the gallery of 66 photos, snapped by Janian Mcillan, was by far the biggest on The Land this year.
