IN ONE of the most solid sales in recent years the yarding of 20,000 head including some 15,000 first-cross ewes sold to $335 with the majority making between $240 and $280 during the 39th annual Forbes first-cross special store sale last Thursday.
Glammis Trophy winner of best presented pen for the second year running was Troffs Pastoral Company, operated by the Jones family, Trundle. This was for 1200 first-cross ewe lambs of 2017 drop by Glammis Border Leicester sires and from Darriwell Merino blood ewes which topped at $298 to average $281.
McCarron Cullinane Chudleigh agent, Adam Chudleigh said the market was a “tad” over last year’s values in a very strong sale.
“In one of the largest crowds I’ve seen here in recent years buyers were mainly local, from the Central Tablelands and as far south as Leongatha, Victoria,” he said.
“Most joinable ewe lambs made from $240 to $280 while lighter ewes sold from $180 to $230 with 1½ year-olds from $200 to $260.”
Top pen at $335 was 187 July/August 2016 drop ewes December shorn and scanned to Poll Dorset rams offered by Garry and Narelle Sunderland, “Currajong Park”, Fifield.
Major vendors included Trevor and Chris Morrison, “Hillcrest”, Forbes, who offered 2100 first-cross ewes March/April ‘17 drop, October shorn, selling to $292 while Pat and Mick Cronin, “Oaklands”, Trundle, sold 1950 first-cross ewes of the same drop date but November shorn, average $263.
Green family, Parkes, gained $235 for Haddon Rig blood Merino ewes, July/August ’16 drop, August shorn.
