White Suffolk
Judge Peter Matus, Tara Texel stud, Rockley admitted he had a difficult decision to split the leading rams paraded for the breed championship due to their evenness of type and balance.
The championship was awarded to Brett, Sue and Cameron Picker, Rocdell stud, Bigga for their two-tooth ram, with Victoria Patterson, Kinellar stud, Canowindra, taking the reserve championship.
Mr Matus noted the champion had beautiful muscle pattern, and it went on to be judged supreme prime lamb ram exhibit.
Mick Wall, Borrehma stud, Braidwood was awarded the championship for his milk-tooth ewe ahead of the Picker family who took the reserve championship.
Mr Matus thought the champion a ‘magnificent young ewe, beautifully fleshed with a lovely head.’
Corriedales
Ric Houlahan and Melina Waters, Glen Esk stud, Rydal came up against strong competition in the breed classes before taking all before them.
Judge Jarrod Alcorn, Jarroby White Suffolks, Yass and associate Richard Carter, Billagaboo Corriedales, Narrandera awarded the ram championship to the Glen Esk stud for their two-tooth ahead of Tony Manchester, Roseville Corriedales, Kingsvale who paraded the reserve champion.
Mr Alcorn said the champion ram stood out in his class, with a beautiful carcase and even fleece.
The Glen Esk stud also paraded the champion ewe ahead of St Gregory’s, Badgally stud, Campbelltown.
The Glen Esk ewe which had graduated from the lamb class went on to be awarded supreme prime lamb longwool exhibit for the show.
Border Leicester
Judge Jamie Buerckner, Bauer Border Leicesters, Ariah Park worked his way through a full section of the breed.
The junior ram championship was awarded to the Corkhill family, Normanhurst stud, Boorowa and Mr Buerckner noted the neck extension and correct stance as key features.
Tom and Ashley Corkhill, Normanhurst stud, Boorowa, paraded the champion ram, who had graduated from the one year and over class.
Mr Buerckner said he really liked the ram for his overall package … “a nice fleece and a very heavy boned carcase.”
The reserve championship was awarded to Scott Anderson, Talkool stud, Crookwell.
The junior ewe championship was awarded to Scott Anderson who was also successful in winning the sash for ewe championship.
Ashley Corkhill, Normanhurst stud, Boorowa showed the reserve champion ewe.
Suffolks
The small classes of Suffolks did not in any way detract from the quality of the sheep being exhibited.
Judge Peter Matus, Tara Texel stud, Rockley deliberated over the championship ram class before giving the nod to Reece Webster, Lindean stud, Bathurst ahead of Jason Barker, Timor stud, Parkes.
Mr Webster was also successful in parading the champion ewe, ahead of Charlotte Close, Closeup stud, Finley who showed the reserve champion.
White Dorper
Jan Myburgh, Ironrock White Dorpers, Young had a clean sweep in the ram championship under judge Jarrod Alcorn, Yass.
Mr Myburgh also exhibited the champion ewe while David Piper and Sarah Carr, Belowrie, Dubbo won the reserve championship.
