Far North Coast Subtropical held another successful wine dine and unwind dinner last Friday.
More than 80 farmers took part along with representatives from processors, Norco Co-operative, Pauls and Richmond Dairies.
The event was funded by Subtropical Dairy with sponsorship through Rabobank, Norco, Pauls’ parent Parmalat and Richmond Dairies.
The dinner was a chance for all dairy farmers in the region to come together in a relaxed social manner to have a chat about the challenges they all face as dairy farmers.
It was great to see Ian Halliday, Chair of Dairy Australia, attend with his wife Anne-Louise and Dairy Australia Board’s Chair Jeff Odgers with his wife Robyne. Also in attendance was Subtropical Chair Paul Roderick and his wife, Linda.
Necessity is the mother of invention and this was shown with the innovation competition. Entries are from farmers who have been innovative throughout the year to show everyone what they have done to make life a little easier, it can be the smallest of ideas, in other words using a piece of polythene styled and cut to prevent the milking claw from falling – or re-cycling 1000 litre tanks to be used as portable calf pods.
This year’s winner was Annabelle Toohey with her creation of an electric fence post holder made from two plough discs with welded rake fingers to hold the posts.
