VALUES remained firm for the Gunnedah breeder and weaner sale last Thursday highlighted by the dispersal of the Sheridan family’s Mia Mia Trading’s EU Poll Shorthorn herd after the sale of their Purlewaugh district property
Buyers as far north at Wandoan and Roma, Queensland competed strongly against local restockers for weaner cattle while cow lots were keenly sought after by Nundle district restockers also competing with locals.
Elders Gunnedah agent Jon Glover said sale prices were very firm on current weaner markets.
“Given the extended dry season throughout many regions we also experienced strong demand for cows as well,” Mr Glover said.
PTIC 2016 drop Mia Mia cows to Wagyu bulls topped at $1100 to average $1060 for the 68 sold with the remaining 355 PTIC mixed-age cows to Shorthorn bulls topping at $1550 for 90, 2015 drop averaging $1200.
Their 188 Poll Shorthorn weaner steers sold to $1070 to average $785 while 188 weaner heifers topped at $790 to average $710.
In other weaner sales from varying vendors a good offering of 340 weaner steers sold to $1070 to average $910 while 230 heifers made to $790 to average $740.
Cows sold well considering the dry season in surrounding areas with 100 cows with calves, mainly Angus and crosses plus Charbray cows with Angus calves at foot topped at $1460 to average $1290.
PTIC cows together with PTIC heifers sold to a top of $1260 to average $980.
