Armidale’s blue ribbon weaner sale last Friday, hosted by Armitage and Buckley delivered firm prices on the whole with steers to $1295.
Steers 340 to 418 kilograms sold from 286 to 336 cents a kilogram; 300kg to 339kg made 308c/kg to 336c/kg; 250kg to 299kg brought 250c/kg 350c/kg; 189kg to 249kg delivered 262c/kg to 348kg.
Angus steers topped the sale, 418kg at 310c/kg to bring $1295 for the O’Brien family who sold to the Landenberger family, Ben Lomand.
Warren Coventry, with country at Walcha and Bundarra sold Angus steers, 270kg, to an average of 336c/kg and was happy with the presence of Queensland buyers, given the district’s concerns about water going into winter.
Charolais steers from Mario Gasbarri sold to 336c/kg at 374kg to bring $1159.
Glenwarrah Angus steers from a Hereford base, 346kg, sold to 336c/kg or $1162.
Santa Gertrudis/Hereford, 349kg, sold by Robert Drew, “Glenroy”, Kentucky, sold to 316c/kg or $1102.
Heifers 300kg to 354kg made 220c/kg to 279c/kg; 250kg to 299kg brought 210c/kg to 342c/kg; 200kg to 249kg made 236c/kg to 266c/kg; 163kg to 199kg made 220c/kg to 270c/kg.
Grass fed assured and EU accredited from Glenwarrah Pastoral Company, Bundarra, sold to a top of 342c/kg, or $1108. Buyer Ed Moorehead, Ben Lomand, will put them them with Wagyu bulls.
Brendan Kelly, Kell Company Dalby, bought 600 Angus steers, 266kg for backgrounding back home paying 335c/kg.
Kevin Flack from Casino took home 250 steers and heifers for an average of 316c/kg for 270kg.
