THE Robertson family of Fishington Red Angus will have on offer five females in the Red Reflections Red Angus Sale at Tamworth.
It’s the first time the stud, based at “Fishington”, Wongwibinda, has sold females.
The lots include two three-in-one packages – rising five-year-old IBR cows that have Jimmie Bond calves at foot and are pregnancy-tested-in-calf – as well as three heifers and 30 commercial females.
Four-generation producers James and Wendy Robertson run the stud with help from their children Phoebe, Abbie, Isobel and Henry. The family set up the stud six years ago after using Red Angus bulls over their commercial Santa Gertrudis herd, and now has a stud herd of 50 breeders, based on bloodlines from IBR, Schipps, Chan Abbey, BST and Goonoo studs.
“We were finding they were able to handle the winter well and they’re a good cross with the Santa cattle,” Mr Robertson said.
“We usually sell bulls privately, but we’ve got to the point where the herd’s big enough to sell a few females.”
Among the stud’s top lots in the April 21 sale is Fishington Ulinga, a 26-month-old heifer by Williandra General and from BST Tullatoola Ulinga G106, who will be sold with a three-week-old bull calf at foot.
“The calf is by Kingslane Lootah, a very good performance bull,” Mr Robertson said.
“That heifer was second in her class at Sydney Royal Easter Show last year.”
