SOUTHERN Highlands stud Yallambee Red Angus will have its first opportunity to sell females after the purchase of the stud, previously known as Wollumbi, in 2015.
The Berrima stud, owned by Richard and Lynne Crookes and managed by David Croker, focuses on breeding structurally sound, easy care cattle to meet all markets, and will have nine heifers in the Red Reflections Red Angus Sale.
“Being a new stud, having a new name, this sale was a good opportunity to promote our cattle,” Mr Croker said.
“We’re breeding commercially-focused Red Angus cattle and sourcing genetics from the US and Canada.”
Among the stud’s top lots are Yallambee McKenzie, an 18-month-old daughter of Red T-K Recoil 72Y and one of the stud’s best cows, Waterfront Caterina, and another 18-month-old Recoil daughter, Yallambee Miss Recoil, from Wollumbi Genevieve.
“Recoil is a Canadian bull and these are the first females by him to be offered for sale,” Mr Croker said.
Another standout female is 18-month-old Yallambee Mildred, by Wollumbi Hi-Star H53 from Wollumbi Hally, who was the junior champion female at this year’s Royal Canberra Show. Mildred is one of two Hi-Star daughters in the sale.
“Hi-Star H53 was the interbreed champion bull at the 2014 Sydney Royal Easter Show and a member of the Hordern Trophy team, and he’s the equal highest selling Red Angus bull in Australia, selling for $22,000.”
