Federal government sets $100b target for Australian agricultural industries

For decades, Australia has been the food bowl for South East Asia and free trade agreements have seen our primary products make the way to the living rooms and kitchens of friendly nations the world over.
However with the global population set to increase exponentially in the coming decades, the federal government has set an ambitious target for our agricultural industry: to be worth $100b by the year 2030.
Experts believe it is achievable but warn that doing so will require an extraordinary overhaul of the way we both use technology and think about sustainability.
That’s why Brisbane will soon play host to Australia’s largest agricultural innovation trade fair, GFIA in Focus. An offshoot of the internationally recognised Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture, the event will take place at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 27 and 28.
The sunshine state is the perfect location for the conference. Not only is the state one of the largest agricultural producers in the nation, they are also expected to do much of the heavy lifting required to meet the federal government’s task, with the Queensland Government setting a 2040 target to double the state’s agricultural output.
With more than 2000 visitors expected to attend from across Australia and the Asia Pacific, the two-day exhibition and conference will likely drive a host of new opportunities for ag-tech suppliers, investors and food producers.
The event will showcase hundreds of innovations in sustainable ag-tech from across two key sectors: “controlled environments and protected cropping” and “precision agriculture and smart farming”.
Exhibitors will include some of Australia’s best start-ups and innovators, who will display and demonstrate the latest solutions for sustainable agriculture.
The company behind the event One CMG Group’s sales director David Stradling says GFIA in Focus will be a great opportunity for suppliers wanting to extend their market position through direct communication with farmers, growers, agribusinesses and distributors across the region.
For agri-food producers, he added, the event is an invaluable showcase for hundreds of new products designed to improve productivity.
