COPRICE is investing in developing their ruminant nutrition sector by converting the Coleambally SunRice rice mill into a ruminant feed mill.
The big news for both CopRice and the industry was announced by CopRice's national business manager Jason Agars during his welcome to Feeding Sheep for Profit field day attendees on Tuesday at Canimbla feedlot, Cowra.
"Across the next nine months CopRice will be converting the Coleambally SunRice mill into a ruminant nutrition mill and expanding what we can offer," Mr Agars said.
"The increase in demand for balanced diets that deliever outcomes for ruminant businesses across south-eastern Australia has led to this innovation and conversion.
Mr Agars said they believe that the transition and the journey that the lamb and the sheep business has been on over the last few years is a sustainable reflection of the demand for Australian protein.
"We are investing in this to allow us to continue to support that with sophisicated and innovative nutrition solutions," he said.
Only announced internally within CopRice on Monday, they are very excited about the future.
"We are expecting to be able to supply processed wheat, barley, corn and lupins mixed with the VitaMinBuf in any combination that you want to suit your enterprise," Mr Agars said.
"And we are going to kick if off in mid-March with the ability to supply some lupin and VitaMinBuf mixes."
