WEANER steers and heifers met solid buyer demand from Rockhampton and St George, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and local competition for the 3200 head at the 13th annual Powerhouse liveweight weaner sale, Gunnedah, last Thursday.
Davidson Cameron and Company's Luke Scicluna said prices were strong, especially for heifers being 40 to 50 cents a kilogram above current prime sale prices.
Price range for steers weighing 200kg to 280kg - 180c/kg to 272c/kg average 237c/kg; steers 280kg to 330kg - 208c/kg to 276c/kg average 250c/kg. Heifers weighing 200kg to 280kg - 140c/kg to 244c/kg average 185c/kg; 280kg to 330kg - 170c/kg to 230c/kg average 191c/kg.
Glen and Tony Hamblin, Wairoa, Narrabri, sold a line of 120 Charolais/Angus mixed-sex by Minnie Vale bulls fetching top money for 10 steers averaging 402kg making 247c/kg to return $995 a head.
Greg Redden, Jan-an-na Pastoral Company, Tirranna, Quirindi, sold 16 Angus/Black Simmental heifers at 214c/kg, 348kg to return $746 each and 19 steers at 262c/kg, weighing 357kg making $936.
Scott and Bec Pickette, Ulamambri, Coonabarabran, sold 90 Angus steers by Booroomooka and Dulverton bulls, weighing an average 264kg and selling at a 267c/kg average to return an average $706 with the top draft of 23 steers made 42.76, weighed 287kg to return $793 a head.
Melissa Christie, Wilga Park, Boggabri, 13 Angus steers of Kansas blood fetching 270c/kg, 291kg to return $788. Rod and Wendy Williams, Longhill Cattle Company, Loloma, Coolah, 81 Charolais/Angus mixed-sex weaners of Palgrove blood averaged 230c/kg, 267kg average, returning $614 and 28 heifers 244c/kg, 262kg return $640.
Judith and Dennis Lee, Yarrawonga, Blackville, 170 mixed-sex Angus/Charolais Rosedale blood average 216c/kg, 241kg returning $522 with 15 steers $743 with top lot of 15 steers at 246c/kg weight $302kg returning $743.
Richard and Edward Kemp, and Jamie and family of Kemp Partnership, Hill View and Gillanimba, Boggabri, sold 76 Angus/Charolais steers of DSK blood, at 236c/kg, weighed average 248kg to return $586.
Lisa Moody, Elah, Coonabarabran, Red Angus, sold 189 weaners average 210c/kg with an average weight of 249kg to return $503.
