It was a wet start to the 155th Wagga Wagga Show, with close to 7mm falling on Friday.
The damp moved the official opening inside but did not stop all ages from coming out to inspect the pavilion ribbons and pick up a show bag.
The Riverina Anglican College (TRAC) and the Wagga Wagga Christian College also put their skills to the test during the Wagga Show's inaugural Youth Livestock Show.
Steward, Tahlia Bruce said they held the cattle and sheep junior judging competition on the Friday before moving on to the junior handlers and steer competition on the Saturday.
"We've got a mix of students who haven't judged before to those who have been doing it for a few years now," Ms Bruce said.
"The first and second place-getters in the Opens will qualify for zone finals, held early next year."
