Daraabah Fleckvieh stud at Dubbo has taken the double, winning both grand champion female and grand champion bull of the Fleckvieh show at Canberra.
With 18 head on show from the breed, numbers were consistent with last year (20 head), but it was the McColl family's grand champion bull Daraabah Podrick that took the supreme title.
Judge Glenn Trout of Kenmere Charolais, Holbrook, and his associate Michelle Fairall, Micanker Livestock, Harden, couldn't go past the 17-month-old son of Barana Madrid from Daraabah Missy.
"I like the maturity pattern of this bull," Mr Trout said. "I like what he offers the industry, his size and soundness."
Podrick went on to place fourth in the interbreed bull competition, and was part of the McColl's Fleckvieh breeder's group that were runners up to the Angus in the interbreed.
Daraabah Poser was the junior and grand champion female, also exhibited by the McColls, that got around the senior champion Denmire Lynette, a rising five-year-old daughter of BFG Waterberg from Tennysonvale Ann, exhibited by Country Sand and Concrete Pty Ltd, Gilgandra.
Mr Trout said he was looking for progression and therefore they selected the heifer.
"The cow has everything in the right place ... productive and functional," he said.
"But I was looking for a female that would really propel the breed forward - progression, so we have gone with the heifer.
"The heifer has the length, performance and structural integrity ... she is loud and proud."
Sired by Brenair Park Lemair L142 and out of the Daraabah Henna female, she showed as a 19-month-old.
Poser was the calf-at-foot at of Henna at the 2019 Royal Canberra Show, when the cow/calf pair was sashed the senior and grand champion female, as well as supreme Fleckvieh exhibit.
Her stall mate, Daraabah Poppy, was the reserve junior champion female, while reserve senior champion female went to Wondenia Porsche exhibited by Melanie Sambrook from Stone Ridge stud, Eumungerie.
Senior champion bull went to Lakeside Penley, a rising 22-month-old son of BT Simmentals Kudos, exhibited by Chris and Ashleigh Ickinger, Altvalora stud, Mulgoa, with the reserve senior sash presented to two-year-old Wondenia Prince from Genetrade Pty Ltd, Gilgandra.
Reserve junior champion bull was Wondenia Pacasso, again from Genetrade Pty Ltd, Gilgandra.
