Strong rivalry within the Angus breed and the desire to have a break from the drought saw an increase in numbers at Canberra this year with 30 head on show, up from 14 in 2019.
It was first time exhibitors Greg and Sharon Fuller of Pine Creek Angus of Woodstock who took out the supreme exhibit.
After never competing at this event before, despite having a number of wins at other Royals, the Fullers had a successful day, coming away with grand champion female and grand champion bull, but it was the female that was unstoppable in the quest for success.
PC Miss J260 Conversion M205 was described as the "overall package", impressing judge Tim Reid of JTR Cattle, Roslyn, and associate Michelle Fairall, Micanker Livestock, Harden, with her added bone and ability to get out and move despite her size and capacity.
She was sired by Millah Murrah Conversion J260 from PC Miss V14 Direction D226 and showed with a July-born heifer calf at foot sired by PC Broken Bow M35.
Pine Creek principal Greg Fuller said it was her first major show, after only recently breaking the female in with the ultimate goal of exhibiting her in Sydney.
The Fullers said the Royal Canberra Show's cost effective nature, friendly committee and opportunity to compare their cattle to other quality animals that would be at Sydney drew them in.
Competition for return entrants KO Angus, Kangaloon, was fierce in the senior females with KO claiming reserve champion female to the overall supreme winner from Pine Creek.
KO Dream K66, who was also the reserve senior champion of the 2019 Sydney Royal Angus feature show, was sired by Connealy Confidence 0100 from the well-known Vermont Dream Y301 that has created a line of winning females for the stud.
Senior and grand champion bull went to the Fuller's PC Not Negotiable N142 that tipped the scales at 1235 kilograms at 29 months.
By Northern View SMW Gustov and out of the PC Miss Morgan C117 female, he was previously the reserve senior champion bull at the 2019 Adelaide Royal and Melbourne Royal Angus features.
PC Pinnacle P010 was the reserve senior bull.
Junior champion female was PC Pandora P104, a rising 18-month-old daughter of PC Miss E99 Foreman J181 who was well-known for taking the trifecta winning grand champion at the Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne Royal Shows, and being a Sydney Royal Show Hordern Trophy winner.
Christie Fuller of Black Diamond Angus, Cowra, exhibited the reserve junior champion female, Black Diamond Miss Quest Q402.
The 11-month-old was the oldest daughter of North American sire, Bubs Southern Charm AA31 to show in Australia, and was the half sister to the 2019 Sydney Royal Angus feature show supreme exhibit.
The bull jackpot winner, Hillview Quigley, took junior champion Angus bull.
Weighing in at 655kg at just under 12 months, the LD Capitalist 316 son from Hillview Jillian J35 was exhibited by Danny and Debbie Hill of Hillview Angus, Bungendore.
Quigley got around reserve junior champion, PC Power Up P059 from Pine Creek Angus.
Pine Creek won the breeder's group and sire's progeny group, while Hillview Angus won the pair of bulls.
All the Angus champions will now make their way to the Sydney Royal Easter Show next month.
