Buyer of the top bull Craig and Lisa Schulz, Morven are first time buyers at Hicks Beef but they had been looking at the breeding program for some time and were very impressed with the results achieved.
They annually join 800 composite cows on their family property and intend to AI their new sire to 200 or 250 heifers in the spring.
"We have been breeding composites for 30 years and we think the Hicks family are doing a great job so we thought we would add their genetic strength to our herd," Mr Schulz said.
"We are looking to add marbling and softness to our herd.
"They are pretty important traits and our new bull is 0.8 for marbling with a very soft skin."
The 20 month old son of G A R Sure Fire is Homozygous for black and Poll and is in the top two percent for calving ease.
Other good sales include Black Composite at $13,000, a second Black Composite at $10,000 and a Red Angus at $11,000.
