RESTOCKERS set a hard pace for youngsters at last Friday's Carcoar CTLX store cattle sale paying up to 625 cents a kilogram for weaner steers under 200kg live and up to 550c/kh for their sisters.
The buying sparked what is becoming a restocker trend for younger cattle with buyers eager to pay higher prices liveweight gambling on the beef market highs continuing for some months ahead.
Lightweight weaner steers under 200kg sold from $100 a head dearer than the March special weaner sale selling from $790 to $1090 making from 393c/kg to 625c/kg.
Lotfeeders were also working the pens paying good money for their selections in the weaner and yearling sections.
McCarron Cullinane agent, Lindsay Fryer, Orange, said the 1300 head yarding sale was very strong with the Angus breed still dominant.
"Values were very much on par with the March weaner sale market," he said.
"There were a lot of cattle weighing 260kg or better and a lot just over the 300kg and upwards mark in the weaner section of 800 head."
Mr Fryer said it was pretty hard to buy cow/calf units under $2000 mainly due to only 22 units offered.
Meat and Livestock Australia's National Livestock Reporting Service reported more heavier weaners with a large percentage 260kg and over.
Medium weight weaner steer prices were firm making from $830 to $1300 while heavy weights from $1290 to $1530. Most steers averaged from 470c/kg to 540c/kg.
Weaner heifers totalling close to 400 head were $409 to $60 a head dearer than the March sale with lightweights $590 to$900/head, medium weights $920 to $1245 and heavies up to $1380/hd. Most heifers sold between 440c/kg to 480c/kg.
Yearling steers topped at $1370 with heifers making to $1140 in a small offering of approximately 40 and 30 head respectively, PTIC Angus cows sold from $1950 to $2100 and cows with calves made from $1600 to $2100 with a top at $3075 a unit for Charolais-cross units of cows weighing 500 to 540kg and calves up to six -months while the cows were also PTIC.
Derribong Partnership, Cumnock, heifers weighing 210kg average made $940 while their steers weighing 220kg made $1160.
Aiden Commins, Loxley, Orange, sold 29 Angus/Hereford-cross weaner steers of Hazeldean blood, seven to eight months old weighing an average 317kg to return $1452/hd while their 25 sisters averaged $1333/hd.
Campbell Rolands, Blayney, sold two Galloway cows with calves two-four months at $1950 a unit.
