The Australian Association of Animal Sciences is putting together an online webinar program with 'sustainability' the focal theme.
Previously known as the Australian Society of Animal Production, AAAS Southern NSW branch secretary Cara Wilson said the society had rebranded with a new strategy to be more inclusive of people working across the broad church of animal sciences and to be a professional home for them.
"We have identified a gap where animal scientists and industry professionals could be involved and expand the reach into animal research," Miss Wilson said.
"We are creating an evidence-based pool of knowledge which will be accessed through the network where industry professionals and scientists can interact."
Miss Wilson said the association was in a position to speak with one voice about the many issues around animal husbandry including wildlife and domestic livestock.
The association is holding a webinar on July 28 at 7pm and the three confirmed speakers will address the theme - sustainable foods, sustainable markets and sustainable environments.
The speakers are:
Production aspect - Katherine Balding (AgriFutures Chicken Meat Advisory Panel)
Supply chain - Maeve Harding (Fulton Market Group)
Environmental/wildlife aspect - Mason Crane (ANU Sustainable Farms)
Each speaker will provide their definition of sustainable before the floor will be open for questions and discussion on the topic.
