BRISBANE's famed Breakfast Creek Hotel has paid an impressive $20/kg for Kingaroy's Evans family's grand champion led steer carcase of the 2020 Royal Queensland Show.
Auctioned online by Stocklive from Nolan Meats in Gympie on Friday morning, the award winning 300.6kg carcase returned at impressive $6012.
The winning carcase had 62.2 per cent meat yield, a 103 square cm eye muscle area, 10mm of fat at the P8 site, and 8mm at the ribs. It also scored maximum points marbling.
The champion lightweight carcase - from a Limousin exhibited by Hayden Beattie, Glamorgan Vale - made $14 ($2878), selling to M&K Butcher Brothers, Lowood.
Rode Meats, Stafford Heights, paid $10.50 for the champion medium weight carcase. That Limousin/Murray Grey-cross from Sean Wicks, Kingaroy, returned $2831. Rode Meats also bought the reserve champion for $10 ($2364), a Limousin from MK Cattle, Murgon.
In other results the reserve champion heavyweight carcase, a Limousin-cross from Travis Luscombe, Toowoomba, made $9.50, selling to Nolan Meats for $3031. Nolan Meats also bought MK Cattle's reserve champion light weight entry, a Limousin, for $11 ($2512).
Both the junior champion and reserve junior champion heifer carcases sold for $10 to The Little Butcher, Kingaroy. The champion Limousin-cross from Claire Goodie, Murgon, returned $2124. The reserve champion Charolais/Charbray-cross from Porsha Warren, Tandur made $2630.
The junior champion steer carcase, a Speckle Park/Angus-cross from St Johns College, Dubbo, made $10 ($2816) as did the reserve champion, a Limousin-cross from Scott Davenport, Ironbark ($2296). Both those carcases went to Nolan Meats.
The Ekka led steer competition was supported by Woolworths, Santos, Z Tags, Elders, Nolan Meats, and AAM Investment Group.
