PENTIRE Angus studmaster Justin Richards was over the moon with the complete auction sellout result of his eighth annual on-property sale at Greenmount, Singleton, last Saturday with most stock staying within the Hunter Valley.
Nineteen bulls averaged $6658 while 10 heifers averaged $2900.
Among the total clearance of the bull line-up were 17 registered topping at $12,000 to average $6618 while two herd bulls sold to $9000 and averaged $7000.
The stud heifer offering never missed a beat with all 10 selling to $4250 and averaging $2900.
Buyers of the $12,000 sale-topper, Pentire Quarterback Q4, Jodie and Paul Ritter, live only a few kilometres down the road, but returned to invest in another sire after success with their bull purchase last year.
The Ritters run a commercial herd of 60 breeders plus some heifers coming on and purchased the top-priced bull here last year at $9500.
"That bull performed well by the look of his calves hitting the ground now," Mrs Ritter said.
"This year we wanted a low birthweight bull and Quarterback, while younger, has the figures, plus 200, 400 and 600-day weight gain figures to back him up."
Weighing 706 kilograms at 18 months, the Ritters said this youngster was more solid and had good muscle coverage and better stance than others they looked at.
Quarterback was sired by Mt Hunter Magistrate from a Pentire Pride dam.
Second top money at $10,500 was paid through AuctionsPlus by Daryl Bower of Goorangoola Pastoral, also nearby, for Pentire Panorama P44, a 22 month-old son of Mt Hunter Magistrate and from Pentire Evilest and weighed 710kg.
Robyn Thomas, Coolah, purchased three bulls paying $8500 for Pentire Quacker Q5 and $5500 for Pentire Quinn Q10, both by the Mt Hunter sire and $9000 for a herd bull sired by HF EL Tigre,
Another registered bull at $8000, Pentire Prickle P29 by Platinum Angus CC & 7-Magic Mike, was bought by Phil and Colleen Algie, Westbrook.
Heifers
Two stud heifers sired by the Mt Hunter bull including the $4250 top-priced Pentire Q43, were purchased through AuctionsPlus by Tayla Miller of Blue Gene Cattle Company, Carinya, Parkville, between Scone and Wingen.
The top-price heifer, Pentire Evilest Q1 was from Pentire Evilest G7 by Knowla Batman while her other buy at $3750, Pentire Q43 is from Pentire Margret N17 by Pentire Gladiator.
Phil Ballard of Kempsey, paid second top money of $4000 for the 12 month-old Pentire Lady heather Q13 by S Powerpoint WS USA and from Pentire Lady heather N30 by DBRL 03M Titan 47.
Mr Richards said he was very humbled by the sale result.
"The bull average is a massive jump on last year's average of $5100 and the heifers would have doubled last year's values," he said.
Pentire was established 30 years ago when Mr Richards secured his first heifer when aged 16.
He is the fifth generation at Greenmount in the Goorangoola district.
A donkey gelding, Pedro, was also sold for $2700 to Dwight Geelan, Stiklands Pty Ltd, Singleton.
The Helmsman sale was conducted by Roger Fuller Pty Ltd, Singleton, with Roger Fuller, Jason Bower and Libby French in charge.
