Prime lamb producers didn't hold back when bidding for their preferred choice of maiden first-cross ewes during the spring Temora/West Wyalong sale last Friday when 3700 quality ewes were offered.
Top price at $375 was paid for the pen of 186 May/June 2019-drop, August-shorn ewes weighing 75kg on account Eric Maguire, Mirrool.
By Bauer Border Leicester rams from large framed Merino ewes they were scanned empty.
They were awarded the sash sponsored by Connolly Pregnancy Scanning, West Wyalong.
Second top price at $360 was paid for 125 April/May 2019 drop, August-shorn ewes sold by KF and PM O'Dwyer, Ariah Park. Weighing 75kg, they were sired by Bauer Border Leicester rams from western bred Merino ewes and scanned empty.
The Dwyer family sold their second pen of 125 ewes, same description for $350.
Emly Farming, West Wyalong, received $342 for 105 September/October drop ewes by Sunsbury Border Leicester rams from Tallawong-blood Merino ewes.
Best presented pen, judged by Ben and Lucy Prentice, Kurralea studs, Ariah Park was awarded to RN and RJ Harper, Ariah Park.
Their pen of 204 July 2019 drop,July-shorn ewes were sired by Cadell Border Leicester rams from stud Boonoke Merino ewes and were sold for $335.
They were awarded the sash sponsored by Fabstock, Wagga Wagga.
The second pen of 191 ewes offered by the Harper family and same description also sold for $335.
Regular vendors GJ and AL Graham, Ardlethan sold 210 May/June 2019 drop, August-shorn ewes weighing 71.5kg for $330. Sired by Bauer Border Leicester rams from extra large framed Merino ewes they were scanned empty.
Wondah Pastoral, Ungarie, received $325 for 175 June/July drop June-shorn ewes by New Armatree Border Leicester rams from Roseville Park-blood Merino ewes.
They were awarded the buyers prize of $1000 sponsored by Ben, Lucy and Kim Prentice, Kurralea studs, Ariah Park.
Ridley Pastoral, Burcher, sold 166 September/October drop ewes, August-shorn abd by Raywil Border Leicester rams from Haddon Rig-blood Merino ewes for $315.
Quade Moncreiff Livestock and Property agent Emma Northey said the prices paid were a reflection on seasonal conditions combined with good demand for prime lamb.
"The ewes presented in very good condition and buyers had to work hard to get what they wanted," Ms Northey said.
"There isn't a lot of ewes around with this quality and it was a very strong sale."
Successful buyers attended from Leeton, Griffith, Barellan, West Wyalong, Wagga Wagga, Forbes, Lake Cargelligo and Young.
The auction was interfaced with AuctionsPlus with West Wyalong-based agencies Elders, Quade Moncrieff Livestock and Property and Nutrien Ag Solutions operating.
