A loyal following of long time supporters jostled it out for some good value bulls at the Ireland's Angus Spring bull sale as 39 of the 46 on offer averaged $5269.
In all, the sale (which was a court appointed receivers sale of certain assets of the Ireland family trust) had 30 people attend on farm to inspect the bulls, while 62 registered bidders logged on through Auctionsplus due to Covid restrictions to push the 39 bulls sold to a top of $9000 and sell to a series of long time supporters.
The top bull was ireland's Quartz Q50, a son of Peakes Reality K697, with a +4.6 birth weight figure, solid growth through to +124 for 600 day and positive carcase data, with a +3.9 eye muscle area.
The bull was bought by Donald Bonney, Tramontana Angus, Gunns Plains, Tasmania, for $9000, before he saddled up and secured a second Reality calf for the second top price of the sale at $8500.
Mr Bonny marked the day securing one of the last bulls for sale at Ireland's, after making his first purchase 15 years ago.
Fellow long time supporters John and Nola Ross, Omeo Station, Omeo, Victoria, secured three bulls to a top of $7500 and average $6167, while Les and June Kent, Tabletop, paid $6500 for a single bull, 30 years on from when they purchased their first bull from the Ireland family.
Philip Henwood, "Panorama Park", Coleambally, has bought from the sale for 10 years and again line up taking home nine bulls at $4722.
Mr Henwood joins 1000 breeding cows and bought a selection of bulls to join to heifers and cows.
"I have bought from the Ireland's for a while now and I just like the bulls and they continue to do a job for me," he said.
Mr Henwood said he aims the calves at the feedlot trade when the seasons go with them, while through the drought they were sold on AuctionsPlus at lighter weights.
Geddes Pastoral Company, Holbrook, also know the bulls well and used the online platform to secure three bulls at $4000 apiece and a fourth at $5000, while Craig Molineux, Adelong, also used Auctionsplus to secure his two bulls at $6500 and $4000 to round out the sale.
The sale was conducted by Ray White and Glasser Total Sales Management, with Michael Glasser as the auctioneer.
