There was a tiny yarding of just 156 cattle at the Yass store sale on Friday, with recent rain convincing producers to keep their cattle at home.
The heifers were in demand on the day, selling to higher prices than their brothers.
The yarding was made up of 58 steers, which sold for an average of $1447 and 58 heifers, which sold to a stronger average of $1638.
The rest of the yarding was made up of cow and calf units, which sold from $2500 to $3150. The top price was paid for 13 Hereford cows and calves offered by Junction Pastoral, Yass.
Meat and Livestock Australia's National Reporting Service said the market was firm, with the weaner heifers selling particularly well, making up to 633 cents per kilogram.
Weaner steers, medium weight, sold from $1200 to $1300. While, heavier weaner steers made from $1400 to $1695.
Aaren Neale of Arjan Pastoral, Taralga offered the feature run of the sale, selling 32 Angus weaner heifers in total.
A pen of his heaviest heifers, averaging 396.1kg, sold for $1830 and was awarded Best Presented Heifers on the day.
His next four pens of heifers also made $1830, including his lightest pen of six heifers weighing 289kg, pushing the cents per kilogram price up to 633.
All four of Mr Neale's pens were bought by a Murrumbateman producer.
The sale was conducted by SELX Associated Agents.
