A BEEFY Angus steer weighing in at 490 kilogram charged home with the champion trade competition ribbon at the Sydney Royal on Saturday.
Nicknamed Hammer, the steer was exhibited by Travis Worth, "Corindavale", Denman, and Greg and Leonie Ball, "Bowmans Creek", Singleton.
Hammer had been on feed from Alexander Downs for about 110 days and scanned an even eight millimetres and 7mm of fat on the rump and rib.
At just 11 months old, Mr Worth said the steer was the typical type of commercially focused animal he aims to produce with a quick maturity pattern.
This is the second time Mr Worth has picked up a broad ribbon in the trade competition as last year he was awarded reserve champion.
The reserve champion was shown by Calrossy Anglican School, Tamworth, and Margaret Rose, "St Helena", Blackville.
The 14-month-old Charolais/Angus was from Mrs Rose's commercial herd.
Mrs Rose has been providing the school with four to five steers a year for the past eight years.
Carossy agriculture teacher Bronwyn Neilsen said the beefy steer was nicknamed Allan and tipped the scales at 516kg.
He scanned 9mm and 7mm of fat on the rump/rib.
