RESTOCKERS, exporters and processors from three states vied for the 3200 head on offer at the Dubbo goat sale on Tuesday, October 27 with lighter weights selling at $10 to $15 dearer.
However, the sale resulted in a firm to cheaper trend, according to P.T. Lord Dakin goat specialist, Joe Portelli, Dubbo.
“Boer wethers were $15 cheaper but one lot topped the sale at $150 while Australian Bush Goats (ABG) met a firm to cheaper trend,” he said.
“Meat goats were also probably back just a fraction.”
Numbers had increased by some 500 head on the previous sale, mainly due, Mr Portelli said, to people “cleaning up” stock prior to the end of year season’s pre-harvest and pre-Christmas period.
Goats came from the Bylong Valley to as far west as Coolabah while there was a big contingent from the Mudgee area code and north to Coonamble.
Boer bucks ranged in price from $60 to $140 and Boer does $55 to $92 while Boer wethers sold from $40 to $75 with the top pen at $150 for three to four year olds offered by Tony Caporale, “The Crown”, Capertee Valley.
Australian bush billies sold from $35 to $86 with bush nannies making from $24 to $58.
