WATER bureaucracy in NSW is being streamlined, with three organisations being combined into one under the Department of Primary Industries (DPI).
Currently the responsibility for water is shared throughout DPI by specific offices – the NSW Office of Water, Sydney Catchment Authority and the Metropolitan Water Directorate.
Now, the DPI is consolidating these parts into a new look Office of Water aligning the water policy and planning, regulation and monitoring and evaluation for all water in NSW.
"This is about creating a broader water division within DPI that manages the resource responsibly for the benefit of all of NSW and its people," said DPI Director General Scott Hansen.
"This includes the creation of a single water division reporting to a DPI Deputy Director General Water."
Mr Hansen said the consolidated Office of Water will also work alongside the newly formed Bulk Water NSW to ensure clear delineation and responsibility for water planning and regulation (Office of Water) and operations (Bulk Water NSW).
DPI Deputy Director General Mr Michael Bullen will act as DPI Deputy Director General Water while recruitment action is undertaken.
Mr Bullen will also continue to head up Agriculture NSW Division.
