THERE was a solid market at the fourth and final Glen Innes weaner sale, with a line up of 1880 Angus and Angus-cross cattle last Friday.
European Union (EU) accredited cattle were in high demand, with the top price of the sale going to a pen of EU Angus cattle for $1179 a head.
Steers weighing between 280 kilograms and 330 kg sold from 300 cents a kilogram to 337c/kg, topping at $1078.
Overall, the steers averaged 310c/kg and $840.
Heifers were in high demand from breeders and backgrounders looking to put quality back in their herds.
Overall, the heifers averaged 285c/kg and $747.
Heavier Angus heifers weighing between 280kg and 330kg, sold from 290c/kg to 295c/kg, topping at $958.
Terry Walsh, “Bindanoon”, Glen Innes won the champion pen of Angus steers and heifers at the sale.
His Angus steers topped the market, selling for 339c/kg, which he was very happy with.
Colin Say and Co agent Shad Bailey said the market was strong despite softening slightly since the first weaner sale at the start of April.
Mr Bailey said there was still obvious confidence in the cattle market with people willing to pay good money for young cattle.
The line up of cattle was the best Mr Bailey had seen at the saleyards, which kept interest strong from lotfeeders, backgrounders and breeders.
With the market about 60 cents dearer than this time last year, Mr Bailey said vendors would have been very happy with prices on the day.
