STRONG bidding from commercial producers in four states pushed bulls to a top of $13,000 at the 16th annual Barana Simmental on-property sale at "Barana" Coolah on Monday.
Thirty one of 36 bulls offered sold for a clearance of 86 per cent and an average of $6,209.
Bulls and heifers sold to stud and commercial clients in NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania.
Barana Latimer, a fifteen-month-old son of Waterfront Fabian from Barana Daisy, sold for the top price to repeat client David Wirth, “Glengarry”, Glen Elgin.
He weighed 810 kilograms, had a scrotal circumference of 36 centimetres, measured eight millimetres on the rump and 6mm for rib fat, had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 121 square centimetres and intramuscular fat of 5.4pc.
The bull will be used in Mr Wirth’s commercial herd.
“”He’s very correct – I like his structure,” he said.
“Barana has got very good cattle and hopefully he’s a young bull with a bit of a future.”

The 25-month-old bull weighed 936cm, measured 42cm in the scrotum, 5mm for both rump and rib fat, and had an EMA of 145cm2 and IMF of 4pc.
Richard Whiteman, “The Rookery”, Cobar, purchased the third highest selling bull, Barana Kearney, for $10,000.
The nineteen-month-old bull, by Barana Emotion from Rosemont Park Coryna, weighed 808kg and had a scrotal circumference of 41cm.
He measured 4mm on the rump and rib, had an EMA of 128cm2 and 4.1pc IMF.
Nineteen-month-old Barana Kakadu, the second $10,000 bull, was bought by Mr Wirth.
The bull, by Barana Emotion from Barana Freesia, weighed 882kg, measured 40cm in the scrotum and 9mm for both rump and rib fat, had an EMA of 131cm2 and IMF of 4.8pc.
Mr Whiteman was the sale’s volume buyer, purchasing five bulls for a top of $10,000 and average of $7200.
John Williams, “Pidgee”, Binnaway; Doug and Jack Ranken, “Tribella”, Quirindi; and the Woodlands family, Bellangry, each purchased three bulls for averages of $4000, $4666 and $4333 respectively.
In the heifer sale, all 12 heifers sold for a top of $4750 and average of $2916.
The sale was conducted by Elders stud stock and Davidson Cameron and Co, with Andy McGeoch, Elders, and Luke Scicluna, Davidson Cameron, taking the bids.
