Just on 2000 head were yarded for the regular store cattle sale at Wodonga, short of the advertised number due to wet weather restricting movement but interest from restockers in quality pens remains high.
A large number of yearling steers were on offer, predominately black but a few Herefords and the odd pen of European breeds attracted attention.
The market was quoted by Paull and Scollard, Wodonga, agent Luke Deimel as being “solid to fully firm.”
“It was strong to a fraction dearer on previous store sale,” Mr Deimel said.
“The cattle were in genuine store condition, but presented well despite lack of sunshine and the current very wet conditions.”
Indicative prices for yearling steers ranged from $1500 to $970, with lighter pens sold from $750 to $825 with odd plain pen cheaper again.
Older steers topped at $1650, while yearling heifers sold from $900 to $1390, with PTIC cows selling to $1500.
Cows with calves and rejoined sold to top $2300.
Local and Riverina restockers were active competing with commission agents and interest from southwest slopes and northern areas.
Wodonga agents Peter Ruaro Livestock Rodwells, Schubert Boers, BUR and Paull and Scollard conducted the sale in conjunction.
