Julie and Kevin Wyatt, Wright Swamp, Mount Richmond, will offer 190 mixed sex Angus weaners at Hamilton.
Their March/April-drop calves, which are of Banquet and Pathfinder bloodlines, have been sought by return buyers, including last year when 33 of their heifers made 362c/kg, or $1289/head. Livestock agent Alan Lakey, Elders Heywood, said that was a record at the sale for heifer weaners.
Mr Lakey expects interstate interest for the Wright Swamp calves to be very strong, helped by the AuctionPlus interface of the sale.
The Wyatts have won best presented pen ribbons for both their steers and heifers over the years.
Mrs Wyatt picks bulls on conformation, frame and a quiet temperament. They put out two bulls in mobs of about 50 cows which helps them get tight calving period.
The Wyatts also fed them hay during the year to ensure they remained quiet.
The calves will be yard weaned three weeks before the sale, be fed Lucerne silage. They’ll receive Multimin, 5-in-1 and Cydectin Pour-On.
Mr Wyatt said the cattle had come through the winter well and they’d enjoyed an “exceptional spring”. They will be weaned onto Lucerne.
