Corcoran Parker, Elders and Landmark held their annual beef female sale at Wodonga, Friday, but offered a heavily reduced supply of cattle compared to the previous few years.
Producers have held on to some of their calved and joined females due to the very good season. Most of the small offering of 530 head was supplied by producers who use this sale as part of their major annual income.
While competition came mostly from local producers, some repeat buyers, with a South Gippsland purchaser, and some northern competition.
First of the mark were heifers and calves with Granite Flats Pastoral Co, Mitta Mitta, having first pen privilege. Their 18 Angus heifers, 2.5 years, had Angus quality calves at foot, and sold for $2500. Most heifers and calves sold from a base of $2000-$2535.
Whyte Pastoral, Staghorn Flat, sold the highest price pen of heifers and calves.
Competition for joined heifers was very strong with most selling between $1800&$2480. W&M Goldsworthy, Eurobin, sold 18 Hereford heifers, 2.5 years, Kaludah & Cloverbank blood, and PTIC to Cloverbank bulls, for the sales top price of $2560.

Neville Watkins, Charleroi, sold 89 Angus & Angus-Hereford heifers 2-2.5years, PTIC to Table Top Angus bulls for Feb-Mar calving. The 2 year old heifers were Glendaloch, TeMania & Banquet blood heifers. Selling from $2100-$2530, Neville said this was better than the F1 sale, where he sold a large consignment of heifers.
Coysh Farms, Tintaldra, sold 19 Charolais cross heifers, 30 months, depastured to Angus bulls. These smaller frame heifers sold from $1400-$1440.
Well finished, but younger, were 83 heifers offered by Cocoran Pastoral Co, Eurugabah. Their breeding ranged from Charolais-Santa Gertrudis, Angus-Santa Gertrudis, and Hereford-Droughmaster crosses, and all were PTIC 6-9 months in calf to Santa Gertrudis & Angus bulls. These sold from $1150-$1460.
Cows and calves were offered at the end of the joined female sale with most selling well from $620-$2200.
At the close of the sale, but taking up very little space was unjoined heifers. JC&JM Maddock, Staghorn Flat, sold 15 Dunoon blood, Angus heifers, 15-16 months for $1455. DJ&J Carroll, Round Hill, Mudgegonga, sold 29 TeMaina & Black Star Angus heifers from $1090-$1345.
