On May 25, Wattletop Angus will offer 276 pregnancy tested in calf (PTIC) females for sale in the first stage of their complete female herd dispersal. All females are rising three and older with just over half the offering aged four years and younger.
The entire Wattletop stud herd has been independently structurally assessed by Dick Whale every year for the last 10 years where they are given a score out of seven. Their calves are also graded and any cow or calf that scores below a three is down graded to the commercial herd.
The AI and paddock sires used for these matings were targeted for their maternal and carcase merits such as calving ease, low birth weight, above average milk, high 600-day growth, EMA and IMF. Some of the predicted average progeny EBVs are in the top one per cent of the breed for the before mentioned traits as well as the Angus Breeding index and Heavy Grain Index.
AI sires include Ayrvale General G18, Ayrvale Bartel E7, Werner Westward, Musgrave Big Sky, an American sire that is ranked in the top 2pc for IMF in the US, Tehama Upward Y238 another US sire as well as Alpine Justice J108, Wattletop Franklin G188, whose progeny have ranked highly in the Angus Sire Benchmarking Program cohort 4.
Glenoch Kalli K115, a General G18 son, who was the $20,000 top-priced bull from last year’s Sandon Glenoch sale, is the paddock mating sire of around 46 lots.
Lots 1 to 28 have been selected as potential donor prospects, however there are many other females throughout the offering worthy of being flushed. The first 28 lots have individual videos that can be viewed on the Wattletop website. There are females on offer that have produced over $50,000 worth of sons sold in bull sales.
This dispersal presents a rare opportunity to purchase genetics from an Angus breeding program that has proven itself in the market place to produce efficient cattle that grade for marbling, a trait that is becoming more important as the premiums continue to rise.
Clients benefitting from these genetics include Paraway Pastoral who have some of the best daily weight gains and carcase gradings at Killara feedlot and also had six Angus steers marble a score of eight in one consignment to Rangers Valley. R.G. Allen and sons won the Teys certified Premium Black Angus champion pen, grand champion pen of five steers and came third in the carcase section in the recent Teys beef spectacular trial. Kevin and Donna Davidson broke a record on AuctionsPlus two weeks ago selling Wattletop blood Angus heifers PTIC to Door Key Wagyu bulls for $2590 per head.
An open day will be held the day before the sale on May 24 from 12 midday and private inspections are welcome anytime by appointment.
