STUD pigs met strong buyer support with 91 topping $2600 and averaging $939 at the third annual Forbes Stud Pig sale held at Bedgerabong showground on Thursday, May 11.
Nine stud breeders including three from South Australia, one from Victoria and five from NSW, sold all offered with 25 mated gilts making to $1925 to average $1079 and 39 unmated gilts averaging $667.
Landrace boars were in demand as the nine sold to $2350 and averaged $1444 while 15 Large White boars topped the sale at $2600 and averaged $1177.
Three Duroc boars topped $1000, averaged $600.
The sale was conducted by Scott and Murray Reid of VC Reid and Sons, Forbes, for the Forbes Pig Sale committee.
The Reids’ father, Wayne, began the sale decades ago, but it was reactivated due to popular demand and this is the third sale.
