ANGUS Australia has launched the first of many online tools which aim to assist members in locating suitable genetics for their breeding programs to maximise profitability and efficiency.
The Angus Database Search was launched in May and is part of Angus Asutralia’s software development initiative which launched three years ago.
The society is producing tools tailored to Angus Australia members and users regarding genetics available within the Angus breed.
The new search facility is comparable to the Animal and EBV Enquiry facilities that members have had access to via the Angus Australia website, however it’s more modern with a range of new features.
Members now have access to more comprehensive information on individual animals such as the complete ownership history of an animal, more information regarding an animal’s progeny, information on structural soundness EBVs for an animal and more performance data.
Members are also able to save frequently conducted searched, customise their display of search results, enter multiple sort criteria and print results.
Angus Australia’s Breed Development and Extension manager, Andrew Byrne, said the database search enabled anyone interested in Angus genetics to access pedigree performance data. It will also allow people to extract relevant information suited to their production.
“It helps them identify genetics most suited to their breeding program,” he said.
The system aims to help producers find the right genetics to reach their market specifications faster and easier.
“We want to help members find suitable genetics for their breeding program and maximise the rate of genetic improvement,” Mr Byrne said.
With the database search system already up and running, My Byrne said the Angus Society was working on developing more tools for members regarding genetics and breeding objectives.
One of the up and coming tools will be used to identify Angus Australia members who may be offering bulls for sale that possess genetics suitable to a searcher’s breeding objectives.
My Byrne said all of the tools aimed to help members and Angus producers to breed the best genetics possible and improving the beef supply chain.
